The history of Walt Disney World Resort began with the vision of Walt Disney, who wanted to create a larger and more innovative theme park than Disneyland Park. After secretly purchasing thousands of acres of land in central Florida during the 1960s, Disney planned a destination that would combine entertainment, technology, and immersive storytelling.

Although Walt Disney passed away in 1966, his brother Roy O. Disney continued the project and ensured his vision became reality. The resort officially opened on October 1, 1971, with its first park, Magic Kingdom, quickly becoming one of the most visited theme parks in the world.

Over the following decades, the resort expanded with the opening of EPCOT in 1982, Disney's Hollywood Studios in 1989, and Disney's Animal Kingdom in 1998. Today, Walt Disney World is a massive entertainment complex with theme parks, water parks, hotels, and shopping areas, attracting millions of visitors from around the world each year.
